7 tips to help you organize your wallet more effectively today.

I use a Kate Spade Cameron Street Planner Agenda as my wallet. INSERT PICTURE As you can see it has credit card slots, 2 pockets in the front, a slot in the back and a pen loop. I’ve been using this system for over a year and it really works for me. If you cannot find this exact planner no worries I will put some links at the bottom of the post to help you get some budget friendly alternatives. But for now let’s stay on track and lets get into this whole wallet organization thing.

How to Organize Your Wallet

1. Organize your cards by how you actually use them

I organize my cards by frequency of use. The cards I typically use daily or weekly stay in the front. To minimize the mental clutter I have white cards on top of my credit and debit cards for uniformity. They stay in the front because they are easy to use. I can crab them without fumbling in my wallet for what I need to use. This is great especially if you have multiple cards from the same bank. No more confusing my bank credit card with the debit card on an ATM run to withdraw cash. The banks typically use the same color so it can be easy to confuse the cards.

2. Remove business cards from your wallet

Putting business cards from people you meet or from business whose goods and/ or services you need it great. However, storing them there permanently is not recommended because your wallet can easily get cluttered this way. There is no need to add stress to your life by having 50 business cards in your wallet. Whenever I get home or at the end of the week if things are busy I gather them all, take a picture and add it to a folder in my phone. I also add the information in a paper book with all the info as a back up.

3. Organize your cash

Personally, I organize my cash by denomination and facing the same way. This is simply having all the presidents faces up and in the same direction. INSERT PICTURE HERE. This helps me to not mix up my bills or having to whip out a credit card when I didn’t intend to or finding out later you had the money all along.

4. Put the cards you use less somewhere else

Store less used cards in another section in your wallet. I keep my health insurance cards in the on eof the front dividers for easy access because I use them they are not something I use everyday or even weekly. Also, I store my gift cards these in a plastic card holder divider so I can easily see them without having to shuffle through a stack of cards. You can easily find these on Amazon INSERT link here.

5. Corral the receipts & paper scraps

Gathering all the receipts and keep them organized in one section of your wallet is a low key key when it comes to wallet organization. It is likely the biggest offender when it comes to messy, unorganized wallets. Of course we’re going to stick receipts on our wallets, but it’s key that you go through and get rid of ones you don’t need at least weekly like inexpensive items like a pack of gum or some mints.

As for other paper scraps—jotted-down addresses, coupons, reminders, phone numbers, etc—throw away anything you won’t need again.

6. A system for tracking expenses

Previously I mentioned organizing cash by denomination. This really part of a two fold system to help me stay on track with my budget and this is key. I personally use a cash envelope system to track my everyday purchases. For example if I have money in a envelope for self care I will use the money in that allotted envelope to fund that purchase. Then when it’s gone, it’s gone. Point blank and the period. Then at this point it is up to me to honor myself, my mind, and my system I have set in place to keep this altogether

7. Find a home for the change

My wallet doesn’t have a change slot and that works out well for me as I tend to have a lot of change. I use a small zippered wallet to hold my change and I just throw it in there or ina seprate part of my bag depending on where it works best for me to store it in the moment. Yes I do spend my change. If the purchase is $3 or less I pay with change. If you don’t like to spend your change, throw it in a jar when you get home, let it build up and then use it for something else.

So, there you have it. Use these 7 tips to help you organize your wallet.

Organize your cards by how you use them, remove the business cards, organize cash by denomination and use, store your less used cards somewhere else, go through the paper scraps, create a simple system for tracking expenses, and find a home for the change.
